Long ride, short strings

Yep, took a long ride down to the Berkshires in Mass to see some old family friends and pick up my recent purchases; the lute and two mandolins. Four and a half hours of quiet driving went from the middle of nowhere New Hampshire, to the Middle of nowhere Mass, between which there were towns, cities, bad drivers, and several rests. So far as I can see, the instruments are nice, but certainly far from playable any time soon.  The lute has a crack in the neck, right by the head, no rosette, and a missing peg. One of the mandolins needs some glue between the back ribs, and the other needs new bridges (top and bottom). They're nice, and worth the money I paid, but it will take some time and effort to fix them up. As it is, I'm pretty apprehensive about playing the lute, even after repairs, due to the crack up by the head.

But don't they look nice like that!

So that was the weekend. Huzzah for that!
